Areas of Expertise
Individual Counseling
I provide individual therapy to children, adolescents and adults. I work to build strong therapeutic relationships with clients, then together we develop a plan for treatment. My underlying therapeutic approach is cognitive behavioral therapy, but may also include elements of solution-focused therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy. I am also certified to provide EMDR therapy and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy.
Family Counseling
I work with families to understand the big picture, "systemic" problems that prevent family peace and intimacy. I help each person in the family make changes that will improve the family dynamic. Part of family therapy may also include talking to individual members. I use principles from Family Systems theory, Trauma Systems therapy, and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy.
Children and Adolescents
I often work with children and adolescents to help increase their awareness of their own thoughts and feelings and learn how to regulate their emotions. I can also provide trauma therapy for children using EMDR therapy and elements of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I am certified to practice Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, which helps parents better connect to their children and improves a child's compliance.
My Approach
My counseling approach focuses on building relationships with clients by listening and valuing them. I draw from Cognitive-Behavioral Theory while integrating a trauma-informed, systems-based and human developmental lens to identify strengths and needs. I believe in the importance of strengthening a person's motivation to change, providing regulating tools and resources, working with the client to develop insight, and then finally strengthening their support system for sustained success. I am certified to practice Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). I will work hard to truly hear you and make you comfortable with the therapeutic process. My hope is that when we are done working together you will have a greater appreciation for yourself and feel better equipped to address the difficulties you face.
I graduated from Lamar University in 2018 with a Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I initially worked with clients in a community mental health center diagnosing and treating severe anxiety and depression along with other mood disorders, psychosis and personality disorders. Since 2019 I have worked with children, adults and families involved in the child welfare system. I helped families develop better systems and heal their relationships. I also helped individuals of all ages address past trauma. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) now working private practice since 2021.
